Main Duties and Responsibilities
|
Working in a small and dynamic team, the role of Farmhand/General Labourer is hands on. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Day to day general farm duties, operations and orchard maintenance including:
– Pruning
– Thinning
– Irrigation
– Fertilizing
– Spraying
– Harvest operation
- Preparation and use of equipment and machinery for harvest
- Daily machinery maintenance and pre-start checks
- Safe operation of farm machinery including which may include:
- Forklift operation (for those ticketed)
- Tractor operating (for those experienced)
- Spray Rig operating (for those experienced)
- Workshop tidying and maintenance
- Domestic duties when required e.g. rubbish disposal. site cleanliness
- Manual handling
Must be available to work varied hours, including weekends based on seasonal demand.

Skills and Experience

Qualifications |
- Hold current Victorian Drivers’ Licence
- Hold current relevant licences and qualifications pertinent to orchard work
|
Experience |
- Mechanical aptitude and experience in operating and maintaining a range of modern farming equipment and being a positive member of a work team.
|
Skills Required |
- Enthusiasm towards learning and adopting innovative skills necessary to maintaining an orchard
- Mechanical aptitude and efficient problem solving
- Experience working in a broadacre or irrigated crop environment (preferred)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers
- Ability to liaise with management to overcome challenges and address orchard issues
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Demonstrated ability to organise and work as part of a high-performance team
- Physical fitness and general good health

Health & Safety
|
- Promote health and safety within CherryHill, inspect the workplace and workplace equipment to ensure they meet safety regulations and to identify hazards and risks.
- Ensure personal protective equipment is being used in the workplace.
- Identify and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards and implement appropriate control measures. Ensure dangerous materials are correctly stored (as instructed).
- Record and report hazards, accidents, injuries and health issues within the workplace and assist with the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action.
